Bioactive Glass Composites - Antibacterial Effectiveness Against Oral Microorganisms

Bioactive glass composite devices demonstrated antibacterial properties in vitro, with virtually complete elimination of all oral bacteria against which it was tested within the first 24 hours after exposure, the effect being maintained for at least 7 days. The addition of a 'sol-gel' bioactive glass phase did not eliminate this response. Further testing is required to determine the actual source of the antimicrobial response.
