At Hydrotransport 13, Johannesburg, in 1996, a proposal was discussed by wakefield for an approach to the decontamination of beneficiation of sand and gravel. Jet pumps were used to generate intensive shear and cavitation that might be expected to free solids from superficial contaminants. The expectation was that cleaning might be accomplished at a cost a magnitde lower than is obtained by established methods. Since then numerous installations have been accomplished, based on this work, all of which bear out the expectations.
