The steady-state convective-diffusive solid-liquid phase change problem associated with temperature fields in direct-chill, semi-continuously cast billets and slabs from aluminium alloys has been solved by the Radial Basis Function Collocation Method (RBFCM). The solution is based on formulation which incorporates the one-phase physical model, three dimensional or axisymmetric multiquadrics, and general transport equation solution strategy. Realistic boundary conditions and temperature variation of material properties are included. Two-dimensional and axisymmetric test case solutions are shown.
