Compared with the static model, dynamic models of actuation should consider dynamic behavior of both piezoelectric patches and controlled structures. With regard to the model of a beam bonded with a pair of piezoelectric patches, it is logical that pin-forces at both ends of the piezoelectric patches are affected by the structural mechanical impedance of the beam suffering from the pin-forces, and the mechanical impedance of the patches as well. Here, a dynamic model to predict the pin-forces is presented, and it is pointed out that the dynamic characteristics of the pin-forces is closely relevant to the frequency of exciting voltage imposed on the piezoelectric patches. A simple supported beam bonded with PZT and PVDF patches is finally used to illustrate the mechanism of actuation of piezoelectric materials.
