This paper deals with the finite element modeling of a smart structure plate system. The electromechanical coupling, due to piezoelectric materials, is handled with a simple numerical technique coupling standard finite element computations of the mechanical behavior to a posteriori calculations of the electrical behavior of the smart structure. The electrical induced potential, found to be quadratic according to an asymptotic analysis, is taken into account through the modification of the elastic constitutive equations. Some examples are treated to show the validity of the present approach.
