Water glass sludge is produced as a residue of the water glass industry and has to be disposed off. Leaking water from industrial wastes contains materials that may cause an impact on the properties of soil and consequently, the foundation of the structure resting on this soil. This paper investigates the effect of sludge on a collapsible soil existing in the first district located at the 6th of October city in Egypt. Soil-sludge specimens were compacted following the Standard Proctor test procedure and were used to determine the unconfmed compressive strength. Geotechnical properties of the soil samples were determined before and after mixing with sludge for different curing periods (7, 14 and 28 days). Chemical analysis was performed on the specimens to identify the cause of some white spots that appeared on the outer surface of the specimens. It has been found that the permeability, unconfmed compressive strength, plasticity characteristics, stiffness, and collapsibility of the soil varied depending on the sludge content.
