To overcome the pollution to the spray powder and to reduce the content of oxide in the parts formed, the flow field characteristics of plasma jets were analyzed. The protective nozzle was put forward and developed. Taking Fe-Ni-Cr-B-Si alloy powder as an example, the PSFP (plasma spray forming parts) experiment with protective nozzle was carried out. By means of this way, the content of oxide in the parts formed decreased clearly. The open porosity of the formed parts was reduced from 6% ― 9% to 1% ― 2% and the collapsing strength was increased from l3 MPa to 55 MPa. The results show that the protective nozzles can significantly improve the quality of the plasma jet and the formed parts.
