The Program for Combating Desertification in Ba Shang Region, Main Source of Sandstorms in Beijing, Should Focus on the Development Measures of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry

The eight and ten sandstorms encroaching Beijng--the capital city in the spring of 2000 and 2001 respectively brought about bad affects on the production activities and daily life of Beijingers, caused great concerns from relevant leaders and sectors as well as public attentions. The central government has formally ratified and implemented the plan on combating desertification along the surrounding area of Beijing in order to alleviate the threats from sandstorm. The discuss will specially focus on Bashang region of Zhangjiakou city in Hebei province, where is the key area for the implementation of the plan.
