SAFE SOFTWARE FOR SPACE APPLICATIONS: BUILDING ON THE DO-178 EXPERIENCE

DO-178, Software Considerations in Airborne Systemsrnand Equipment Certification, is the well-knownrninternational standard dealing with the assurance ofrnsoftware used in airborne systems [1,2]. Insights intornthe DO-178 experiences, strengths and weaknessesrncan benefit the international space community. AsrnDO-178 is an excellent standard for safe softwarerndevelopment when used appropriately, this paperrnprovides lessons learned and suggestions for using itrneffectively.
