摘要

Due to wide-ranging improvements in satellite and launch technologies, the trend towards building and launchingrnsatellites that are smaller, faster, better and cheaper is expected to continue and to result in exponential increase inrnnumber of objects in space. Since the number of small satellites will increase to a point of possibly endangering thernsafety of other space missions and sustainability of space activities in general, it is important to assess therneffectiveness of current regulatory regime governing satellites. This paper addresses several legal and regulatoryrnissues that relate to licensing and registration, use of radio frequencies, space debris mitigation and remediation, rnresponsibility and liability, etc. This paper recommends some regulatory improvements that might be implementedrnto address these issues for ensuring space safety and sustainability of space activities.
