摘要

The Ministry of Defence Sea Technology Group has established a stakeholder group to oversee the revision of the 'Ship and Submarine Accommodation Standard', NES107. It was recognised that there was a wide range of views held by the various stakeholders concerning the proposed revision of this standard, and that these views reflected different perspectives. As a key part of this work an assessment was made of crew accommodation regulations and requirements for the merchant shipping domain, and this yielded requirements and issues which contrasted with those of the Royal Navy domain. The data collected covered many issues, for example, consideration of societal trends, gender integration, provision of sports and recreation facilities, the changing role of the cabin, expectations for privacy, etc., the nature of which are highly relevant to both domains of application.
