The present contribution describes the extensive research activity that has been developed on SFRC in order to investigate the effective application in the precast industry of elements where the traditional transverse reinforcement is partially substituted by randomly oriented fibres. Furthermore, this investigation has dealt with the behaviour under fire conditions and the durability of the composite fibre-concrete material, and has proposed the definition of design rules for SFRC elements.
