Vegetable oil blends on Diesel engine

In nowadays there are an increased number of cars and vehicles, which run on gasoline or diesel fuel. As a result, air pollution is produced. Pollutants of major public health concern include particulate matter, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. In order to reduce pollution and also meet transportation fuel needs the use of renewable fuels are necessary. An alternative fuel refers to a vehicle that runs on a fuel other than traditional gasoline or diesel. Biofuel is a natural alternative from other fossil fuels and is attained from living or biological material that has just died. It can be distinguished as a gaseous, liquid or solid fuel. One type of biofuel that is capable of powering any diesel engine vehicle is vegetable oil. Soy oil is cooking oil that is extracted from soybeans. At the present paper will be examined the use of diesel-soy oil mixtures in diesel four-stroke engine. The mixtures that have been used are the following: diesel-5% soy oil, diesel-10% soy oil, diesel-20% soy oil, diesel-30% soy oil, diesel-40% soy oil, diesel-50% soy oil. The fuels were submitted in different temperatures 10℃, 20℃, 30℃, 40℃, 50℃. For those mixtures and for every fuel temperature the gas emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogen monoxide (NO) and smoke are being measured. The fuel consumption and the gas emission temperature are also measured.
