Thiol-ene systems have been shown via photo-DSC measurements to photopolymerize at very rapid rates in air where traditional acrylates are readily inhibited. Thiols can also enhance the polymerization rate of acrylates in air. Reasonable polymerization rates are obtainable in air even when no external photoinitiator is present in the sample. The rate enhancement in air in the absence of an added photoinitiator is dependent upon the concentration of the thiol added to the acrylate.
