As a contribution to rural development, this paper studiesrnthe current status and presents basic characteristics for therntechno-eocnomical sizing of stand-alone Photovoltaic-rnWind hybrid power systems in the rural DemocraticrnRepublic of Congo (DRC). It is shown that even thoughrnthe country has good potential in wind and solar resource,rnit requires technical expertises in wind and solar energy;rnwhich makes vulnerable the sustainability ofrnPhotovoltaic-Wind hybrid power systems.rnThe performance of the PV and Wind generators underrndifferent meteorological conditions is reviewed. Therninfluence of energy efficient load in the process of sizingrnthe PV-Wind hybrid system is investigated as well. Thernannual average monthly and the worst renewable monthsrnsizing methods are examined to point up calculation of thernrespective energy contributions of PV and wind in thernarchitecture of the hybrid system under consideration. Thernresults of this study can be used as tools and reference tornthe designers for implementation of stand-alone hybridrnPV-Wind systems to supply other remote areas of ThernDemocratic Republic of Congo, where wind and solarrnresources are available and exploitble.
