The ENVISAT validation programme for thernatmospheric instruments MIPAS, SCIAMACHY andrnGOMOS included a number of balloon-borne, aircraft,rnother satellite and ground-based correlativernmeasurements. In particular the activities of validationrnscientists were coordinated by ESA within the ENVISATrnStratospheric Aircraft and Balloon Campaign or ESABC.rnIn parallel to the contribution of the individualrnvalidation teams, the present paper provides a synthesisrnof comparisons made between MIPAS CH_4 profilesrnproduced by the current ESA operational softwarern(Instrument Processing Facility version 4.61 i.e. IPFrnv4.61) or by the IMK-FZK scientific processor andrncorrelative measurements obtained from balloon andrnaircraft experiments as well as from satellite sensors orrnfrom ground-based instruments.
