The floral numerical variation of 50 flowers from 10 plants of Michelia yunnanensis Franch. ex Finet et Gagnep. in Kunming Arboretum was observed. The result shows that the numbers of their floral parts are varied. The numbers of peduncle internodes are from 2 to 3, that of tepals are from 5 to 10 and forming 2 to 4 whorls, that of stamens from 38 to 93, that of carpels from 7 to 14, that of ovules from 3 to 9 in each carpel. The biggest coefficient of variance is 23.51% which belongs to the whorl numbers, and the least one is 13.18% which belongs to the peduncle internodes. By analysing the variation, the statistic result reveals that there exist significant differences for the numbers of tepals, whorls of tepals, stamens, carpels, and ovules among individual plants, and it shows that the variations among different individuals are more than those in a same single plant. For the number of peduncle internodes, there is no significant difference and it shows that the variations of the flowers from a single plant is more than those from different individuals.
