Application of the pressure acid leach process to Western Australian nickel/cobalt laterites

Western Australian nickel cobalt laterite ores, as being developed at Murrin Murrin, Bulong and Cawse, represent an unusual form of mineralisation which is suitable for treatment using the Pressure Acid Leach process. The significant difference between the Western Australian ores and those treated at Moa Bay is the preponderance of smectite or nontronite clays, in comparison to the Cuban limonitic ores.
