A mathematical model of the moving bed scrap melting furnace has been developed by incorporating following fundamental works.For the rate of major reactions; iron oxide reduction,coke gasification and thermal decomposition of binder were observed by using a single briquette,and carburization rate of solid iron from gas phase was measured by using thermo-gravimetrical analysis and EPMA analysis.Wetted area in a trickle bed was also evaluated for low wettable liquid flow in low Reynolds number region.The simulation results of the scrap melting furnace revealed three-phase flow phenomena with melting and demonstrated the enhancing effect of the newly-developed briquette on reduction due to coke breeze gasification.
