摘要

Slince long,electromagnetic fields have been used in metallurgical industry,to heat,to melt and to stir electroconducting materials.Basic research in MHD,(Magnetohydrodynamics) were always supporting the progress of conventional process.The strong interaction between MHD and Materials Processing gave rise during the ten past years to a new field of research which revealed to be a high interest for industrial applications: this new field is called EPM for Electromagnetic Processing of Materials.Whereas the use of alternating,traveling or rotating magnetic fields brought successful innovative technologies,news trends of EPM have appeared based on the exploitation of high intensity D.C.fields produced by superconducting magnets.Some examples are given to illustrate actral EPM activities and futher developments.
