Selection Criteria for HDTV transmission channels in Studio Broadcast

The demand for high resolution pictures in Video/TV requires appropriate physical transmissions channels consisting of cables and connectors along the complete transmission chain. HD pictures require a 3Gb/s data stream to support the resolution even for 3dimensional images. Typically the transmission channel starts from the high resolution camera following various cable and connector elements to the Camera Control Unit (CCU); where after selection and mixing of video and audio signals the stream is routed into telecommunication uplink. In the paper the requirements for the choice of media will be reviewed.
