A Downsized Preconnected Optical Cable for Vertical Wiring in Buildings

In FTTx construction, after the cable enters the building, the connection between entrance facilities and communication cabinets on different floors should be provided, which is called "vertical wiring system". In this case, the cables are often located in the riser so that they should withstand more tension (maximum their own weight). So far, tight-buffered fiber cables are widely used for the vertical wiring in buildings, but with the increase of the fiber count, the diameter and the weight of the cable are also increased, which leads to high cost of connection on the site. In this paper, the design of a downsized preconnected optical cable for vertical wiring in buildings is introduced. The cable adopts 200um G.657.A2 fibers which meet corresponding ITU-T standard to reduce the overall diameter of the cable. Meanwhile, non-stranding cable structure is employed so that it is convenient to pull out the micro tubes from the cable for preconnection while all dry cable core design is suitable for vertical wiring in buildings. In addition, mechanical and environmental properties of the cable are also introduced.
