Development of Underground Optical Cable for Mid-Span Access

We have newly developed two types of 40-fiber underground optical cable for mid-span access enabling efficient fiber usage by using single optical fibers. The one which is central core type is smaller dimension and lighter weight. The other which is slotted core type is excellent in environmental and mechanical characteristics. Workability of mid-span access has been improved remarkably by changing water block member from yarn to tape in central core type and slotted rod from S to SZ in slotted core type. We have confirmed that these cables show satisfactory results in all the general evaluations.
