A single mode optical fiber with an enlarged effective area (A_(eff)) ranged from llOum~2 to over 150um~2 is reported. To control the cable cutoff performance, a ring structure in core layer is employed. With trench assisted refractive profile design and coating process optimization, the microbending performance is also improved. Three fiber samples with A_(eff) of 112/130/152um~2 were selected for the CO-OFDM transmission experiments. In the 1.26Tb/s CO-OFDM system, a transmission distance improvement of beyond 20% (the largest 55% for 152um~2 A_(eff) fiber) is obtained with standard 80km span lengths and at least ~3.2dB gain at the optimum power due to increase in nonlinear tolerance.
