Bacterial values in larval rearing water of Penaeus chinensis were estimated by AODC, DVC, 2216E -plated count and TCBS - plated count, with results of 3.08 × 10~6 ~ 9.37 × 10~7 cells/ml, 1.5 × 10~5 ~ 8.76 × 10~7 cells/ml, 1.0 × 10~2 ~ 6.9 × 10~6 cfu/ml and 4.0 × 10~1 ~ 3.6 × 10~4 cfu/ml , respectively. Heterotrophic population increased from nauplium stage, decreased at mysis stage, and again increased at the end of postlarva stage. While vibrios number increased rapidly from nauplium stage to zoea stage, and stable until the end of husbandry. Water temperature, source of nutrition and living food were main factors of effect of bacterial quantity. Gram-negative heterotrophic bacteria were dominant groups, in which 7 genera were gotten: Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Aeromonas, Photobacterium, Alcaligens, Flavobacterium and Alteromonas . The former four genera were most frequently encountered in larval rearing water.
