ARC (AAA ATPase forming Ring-shaped Complexes) is a divergent member of the superfamily of AAA ATPases (ATPase Associated with various Activities). The hallmark of AAA family is a highly conserved domain of approximately 250 residues, which contains the walker A and B motifs. Sequence analysis predicted that ARC consists of three domains: coiled coil domain from Ala 1 to Gln77 interrupted by Pro34, intra domain from Pro78 to Glu227 and AAA domain from Val228 to Ile553. However, the role of each domain is still unknown.
