We have reported that soybean growth was inhibited seriously by rubratoxins produced by Penicillium purpourogenum isolated from rhizosphere of soyphere of soybean continuous cropping, it may be the key factor leading to soil sickness by continuous cropping (Chin. J. Appli. Ecolo. 1996, 7(4): 396-400). It more recently studies, we found rubratoxins produced by. P. purpurogenum inhibited soybean nodulation at very low concentration (2-0.002 ug/ml) in water culture. Attachment of rhizobium on soybean root hairs and curling deceased root hairs. When inoculated with rubratoxins above 0.02ug/ml; root hairs were studted at 0.02-2ug/ml, thus, it affected recognition between rhizobium and host plant, invade hread forming, symbiotic nodulation and symbiotic nitrogen fixation in development sequence, even no nodules emerged above 2 ug/ml concentration.
