Through questionnaire and interview, the present situation of English teachers' professional development is investigated in rural middle school.The findings are as the following: teaching beliefs of some teachers are out of date;their theoretical attainment and professional knowledge and skills are dissatisfactory;their teaching and research ability need to be improved urgently.By the analysis of investigation results, the following suggestions are put forward: establish research cooperation between rural schools and colleges;establish an effective mechanism for teachers' in-service training;establish reasonable and perfect mechanism for teachers' evaluation;and develop education research.
