Availability of the historical crop maps is necessary forrnthe assessment of land management practices and theirrneffectiveness, as well as monitoring of environmentalrnimpacts of land uses. Lack of accurate current and pastrnland-use information forestalls assessment of thernoccurred changes and their consequences and, thus,rncomplicates knowledge-driven agrarian policyrndevelopment. At the same time, lack of the samplingrndataset for the past years often restrict mapping ofrnhistorical land use. We proposed a methodology for arnretro-assessment of several crops, based onrnmultitemporal Landsat 5 TM imagery and a limitedrnsampling dataset. The overall accuracy of the retro-maprnwas 81% while accuracies for specific crop classesrnvaried from 60% to 93%. If further elaborated, therndeveloped method could be a useful tool for therngeneration of historical data on agricultural land use.
