Initially, the design of common mode inductors is very straightforward, but it quickly becomes more complicated when the effects of saturation, stress and temperature are included. Fortunately, these problems are not too difficult to solve once it is understood how the various materials behave.rnThis report has explained the basic methods for selecting common mode inductor cores and materials. It has also presented a core selector chart that will help to speed the design process. Finally, some of the typical design pitfalls were described along with ways to overcome them.
