DETECTION OF CORONA IN SMALL COILS AND MOTORS

Corona on windings can be easily detected by performing a surge test on the coil or motor. A Corona Value, representing the severity of corona, can be calculated from the acquired surge test data. This Corona Value can be used in production to set a pass/fail limit for parts.rnCorona evaluation techniques have been added to present PC-based surge testers to assist production staff in testing production motors. Using the method outlined here, the production engineer can evaluate a sample of stators. A pass/fail limit, using the measured Corona Value, can be assigned for production testing of the part.
