As part of a new Federal program to promoternenergyefficient retrofit of commercial buildings, voluntaryrnprivate-sector partners evaluate potential envelope retrofitsrnfor their buildings. To support this program, we performed arnseries of simulations of building envelope insulation andrnfenestration throughout the U.S. The DOE-2. 1E simulationrnprogram was used in a parametric modeling of three buildingrnsizes in eight U.S. locations for thousands of combinationsrnof loads, construction, HVAC system, insulation, andrnfenestration alternatives--in total, more than 20,000rnenvelope options. We combined these energy results withrnupgrade costs to determine cost-effective upgrades based onrnan existing building envelope.rnThis paper first describes development of the database ofrnincremental wall and roof insulation, and fenestrationrnupgrades. Then examples of the tabular summaries ofrnenergy and economic results are presented. Thesernsummaries allow program participants to quicklyrndetermine cost-effective wall/roof insulation andrnfenestration upgrades for a building and location similar torntheirs.
