To evaluate the effect of viscosity and pressure on pump efficiency and fluid temperature, an Eaton-Vickers V104C pump was instrumented to record pressure, temperature, flow rate and total power input at the pump shaft. Tests were completed at 69 and 138 bars and a temperature ranging between 30 and 90 ℃ with three fluids having different NFPA viscosity grading. Temperatures recorded in various points of the hydraulic loop are consistent with thermodynamic models determined earlier. These models can be used to estimate the temperature of the oil leakage stream and that of the actual oil temperature inside the pump.
