Post-fracture proppant flowback has been anrnunwanted result of high-pressure/high-temperaturernhard-rock fracturing in the Mahakam Delta for arnnumber of years, causing abundant productionrelatedrnissues coupled with additional operationalrnrisks for the operator, TOTAL E&P INDONESIE.rnPrevious attempts to reduce proppant flowback withrnresin-coated proppant (RCP) have proven to be bothrnunsuccessful and expensive due to the brittle naturernof the hardened RCP and the extended cleanoutrnperiods associated with post-job fracture cleanoutrnusing RCP in the swamp environment, leadingrnTOTAL E&P INDONESIE to search for anrnalternative solution. In early 2012, the servicerncompany implemented a new proppant flowbackrncontrol service for mid- to high-temperature wells.rnThis service has been applied to the highpressure/rnhigh-temperature fracturing campaign inrnthe Mahakam Delta with excellent results. Thernservice consists of a resin-coated fiber additive,rncoupled with technical support software for designrnand optimization purposes. The service wasrnpioneered on four hydraulically fractured wellsrnthroughout 2012 and 2013.rnFrom the four wells currently treated with the newrnproppant flowback control service, a total of 180rnlbm of proppant has been recorded at surfacernproduction facilities. All of this proppant is knownrnto be from well A (approximately 0.18% of totalrnproppant placed during fracture treatment). Wells B,rnC, and D have all recorded zero proppant returnedrnto date. None of the four wells shows any indicationrnof perforation burial from proppant, and there hasrnbeen no decline in production that can be attributedrnto proppant flowback.
