摘要

There is growing concern that the accumulation of unexploded or unconsumed explosivesrnin soils on military testing and training ranges is an environmental hazard. The ultimate fate andrntransport of these compounds is no doubt influenced by land management practices, such asrnprescribed burning. The ultimate objective of our work is to determine the degree to whichrnburning plants on the soil surface affects the decomposition and transport of surface and nearsurfacernenergetic residuals. With these objectives, we have examined the rate of explosiverndecomposition in soil, using primarily sandy soil from Eglin Air Force Base, and compared itsrndecomposition rate and products to that of neat explosive.
