Analytical protocols were developed using gas chromatography with electron capturerndetection to evaluate the sorption and persistence of TNT to hair specimens as a function of time.rnQuantification from hair extractions were obtained by comparison with standard curves rangingrnfrom 0.01 ppm to 1.0 ppm. The results suggested that for brown and blond hair maximumrnsorption was achieved in about 500 hours, while for black oriental hair about 650 hours werernrequired. Furthermore the black hair sorbed significantly greater amounts of TNT over time. Inrnaddition, a gas chromatography method was developed to determine the vapor density of TNTrnand other explosives confined in the space occupied by the hair samples.
