A commercially available TG/DTA was modified by removal of a portion of the furnacernwall above the sample and reference holders and replacement of this portion of the furnace wallrnwith a double layer quartz window. The quartz window provided ready access for Ramanrnspectroscopy enabling simultaneous collection of TG/DTA and Raman data during a thermalrnanalytical experiment.rnThis poster provides details of the modification of the horizontal TG/DTA and thernadjustments needed to compensate for the loss of a portion of the furnace wall. In addition,rnTG/DTA performance studies are provided on the same instrument to allow head-to-headrncomparison of a traditional furnace to the quartz-windowed furnace.rnThe configuration for successful coupling of Raman spectroscopy to the TG/DTA isrndescribed along with experiments to demonstrate that simultaneous collection of Raman spectrarnduring the thermal experiment does not alter the sample or cause thermal artifacts.
