Sustain-release formulations limit the number of required doses per day. Thisrntype of product improves compliance with medications. This study focuses on a newrnmethod for evaluating a sustained-release solid dosage. These formulations expand tornfacilitate the release of the active ingredient, Methylphenidate. Ritalin exhibits thisrnprocess in a Thermal Mechanical Analyzer by expanding or swelling with time at arnconstant stress, pH and temperature. There was a linear decrease in release time withrnstress (0-440 psi). The number of time release events increased with applied load orrnstress. It appears that a 5 gram load or 22 psi stress closely mimics Ritalin'srnphysiological time release that is a slow drug release with time.
