Geogenic Distribution and Baseline Concentrations of Copper in Top Soil from Newly-Developed Shannan District, Huainan city, China

Copper in top soil from Newly-developed Shannan District of Huainan City, Anhui Province, China was examined. Geogenic baseline concentration of Copper is the mean (12.70 (mg kg-1)) or the median (13.30 (mg kg-1)) determined by Lepeltier method and relative cumulative frequency (RCF) curves. The boundary value between background values and abnormal values is 29.86 (mg kg-1). The concentration values above 31.18 (mg kg-1) may be associated with human activities, and may also be related with the geological environment. Geoaccumulation index (Igeo) of Copper ranges from minimum of -3.428 to maximum of 1.404 or -3.495 to maximum of 1.337. According to Igeo classification, the top soil of Newly-developed Shannan District is uncontaminated to moderately contaminated by Copper.
