Study on the Gel Point of the Precursor Sol of Mullite Fiber

Using water as disperse medium, aluminum nitrate (AN), aluminum isopropoxide (AIP) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as raw materials, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as modifier, the precursor sol of mullite fiber was synthesized by sol-gel method. Through dynamic theological measurements, the gel points of the different systems were determined according to Chambon-Winter (CW) criterion. The influences of PVP and aging temperature on the gel point of the precursor sol were also investigated. They exert great influences on the gel point of the specific system. From these work, it may provide scientific basis for the preparation of the continuous mullite fiber.
