PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF INTELLIGENT MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONALITY FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Telecommunications and information technology rapidlyrnmigrate towards the Future Internet (FI) era, which isrncharacterized by powerful and complex networkrninfrastructures, advanced applications, services andrncontent, efficient power management as well asrnextensions in the business model. One of the mainrnapplication areas that find prosper ground in the FI era, isrnmedicine. In particular, latest advances in medicalrnsciences are reflected on their capability to approachrnpreviously past-cure diseases, as well as to prevent thernappearance and evolution of unpleasant situations. Thosernadvances are often derived from interdisciplinaryrnsolutions to complex medical problems, supported byrncommunications and electronics, which target fast,rnreliable and stable solutions to problems that arerndemanding in terms of velocity and accuracy. The goal ofrnthis paper is to present intelligent, knowledge-basedrnmanagement functionality capable of supportingrnemergency medical applications. An indicativernemergency medical scenario is provided, along withrnextensive simulation results using the Network Simulator-rn2 (NS-2), for evaluating the performance of the proposedrnfunctionality.
