A consideration of the breakdown field strength of XLPE cable insulation

Based on the consideration on the structural dependence of Emax and Eavg, the breakdown field strength of XLPE cable can be examined. The breakdown of ordinary XLPE cable is more likely to be determined by the average field strength than by the maximum field strength, though the breakdown of cable with very few defects could be governed by the field strength on the surface of the cable conductor.
