Figure 2 presents the impulse breakdown stress of PE samples, achieved by combining the different polarity of impulse voltage and an initial polarisation caused by DC voltage applied to the samples. Figure 3 shows similar results obtained for XLPE samples. Additionally, the comparison of polarisation effect of DC voltage for investigated material and varied polarity have been shown in figure 4. The influence of DC voltage polarisation on impulse strength is clearly visible. It is possible to increase or decrease the strength of polarised samples in comparison with un polarised ones.
