In recent years, the LLC resonant converter has become popular for implementing power supplies withrnhigh efficiency in the medium-power range, i.e. 200W to 1 kW. This work shows that equal or betterrnefficiency can be obtained by using a hard-switched topology. The loss mechanisms in resonant andrnhard-switched topologies are introduced and contrasted. For verification, a hard-switched and a resonantrnpower supply are analyzed by a detailed calorimetric loss evaluation.
