Comparison between IEC standards, MAS, Web Services and CORBA 3.x for Information Integration and Control of DERs Interfaces over IP-based Networks

This paper presents a comparison between the available integration middleware and standards for therninteroperability of distributed software/hardware (SW/HW) entities, components, and networks accompanyingrndistributed energy resources (DERs) in power systems, such as CORBA 3.x, Web Services,rnMulti Agent System (MAS) and IEC 61850. In addition, the paper investigates the possibility of mappingrnthe data models of IEC 61850 to legacy SCADA protocols, WSs, CORBA 3 and MAS for the control ofrnDERs interfaces over IP-based WANs. Moreover, a general interoperability strategy for DERs thatrnsummarizes the comparison and investigation is proposed at the end of the paper.
