Different Short Circuit Types of IGBT Voltage Source Inverters

This paper presents different short-circuit types in HV-IGBT based voltage sourced inverters (VSI). Itrngives an overview about different already known short-circuit types (type 1, type 2, zero current type 2rnand type 3) and investigates a new type, the short-circuit type 3 with the IGBT in the off-state. Thisrntype of short-circuit may occur during the blanking time of the inverters. For all short-circuit types, experimentalrnresults with 4.5 kV IGBT are given, including the effect of a di/dt feedback on the gate.
