A special type of PM synchronous machine, which is used particularly in mechanical engineering and inrnthe medical technology is the pancake-motor. This paper presents the implementation of a sensorlessrnvector control for this special drive. For this purpose, a combined INFORM?/EMF model covering thernfull speed range is used. In the low speed range and at zero speed no back-EMF occurs in thernmachine. Hence this speed range needs a model that measures saliency – in this paper, the INFORMmethodrnat low speed. At higher speed a back-EMF-model offers position estimation. Combining thernlow and high speed model with a mechanical observer yields a stable control structure for sensorlessrncontrolled drives. A special feedback loop returns the output information of the observer to thernintegrating voltage model. Thus, a stable operation with high robustness against parameterrnuncertainties and low frequency disturbances is achieved.
