Abstract: We describe a complex optical system consisting of a 4foptical correlator with programmable filters undercontrol of a digital on-board computer that operates atvideo rates for filter generation, storage, andmanagement. It gives intelligent vision to asemi-autonomous vehicle, with ability to recognizeimmediate danger to its survival in the near term andability to pursue navigational goals on the basis oftracking the previously identified features.!6
