Experimental testing of autonomous alignment of a six-degree-of-freedom optical system

Abstract: Experimental testing of the Downhill Simplex optimization algorithm is described in application to alignment of optical systems. A bench top experiment was designed to test the algorithm in the presence of real noise effects. A methodology of optimum design of merit functions for the algorithm is described and test data presented. !5
