Alignment technique for precision optical assemblies

Abstract: A non-contact approach for the alignment of optical elements and systems is described which allows the operator to clearly distinguish tilt and decentration errors of the individual optical elements. Advantages over alternate methods are discussed, and several examples of the use of the alignment tool are presented with experimental results. !7
